Triumph Wins GE Leap Contract

General Electric has awarded Triumph Group’s Geared Solutions business a long-term agreement to perform work on the inlet gearboxes for Leap-1A/-1B/-1C programs. Triumph will perform the work at its facility in Macomb, Michigan.

Pratt Renews Engine Health Monitoring Contract

Pratt & Whitney Canada has signed a contract extending its use of CAMP’s engine health monitoring (EHM) data analysis service through 2040 for all its turbofan, turboshaft and turboprop engines. It has used the service since 2010, and CAMP currently provides EHM data analysis to 25,000 in-service Pratt & Whitney Canada engines.

AEI Receives Argentinian STC Approval

Argentina’s Administración Nacional de Aviación Civil has approved the supplemental type certificate for Aeronautical Engineers’ (AEI) Boeing B737-800SF freighter conversion. AEI has also gained approvals for the conversion from regulators in the U.S., Europe, UK, Cayman Islands, Guernsey, China, Canada, Brazil, Malaysia, Indonesia and Egypt.

Aero Design Labs Gets Drag Reduction Kit STC

The FAA has awarded a supplemental type certificate to Aero Design Labs for its Boeing 737-800 drag reduction kit. Delta Air Lines partnered with Aero Design Labs for installation and testing of the kit, and it will be flying the certified kit in revenue service in the weeks ahead.

Avensis Lands NAVIS P2F Launch Customer

Germany-based Universal Sky Carrier will be the launch customer for Avensis Aviation’s NAVIS passenger-to-freighter conversion program, which entails a full conversion with a main deck cargo door and cargo loading system. The carrier’s Airbus A340-300 and A340-600 aircraft—which are currently operating with Avensis’ MEDIUS cargo modification—will receive the NAVIS conversion.

Werner Aero Acquires A319s For Teardown

Aviation asset management and logistics provider Werner Aero has acquired two Airbus A319s for teardown. Spares from the aircraft, which are located in the U.S. and Europe, will be added to its A320 inventory.

Marshall Gets AMT Program Funding

Marshall University will receive $1 million from the Small Business Administration to continue supporting aviation workforce development. Bill Noe, chief aviation officer at Marshall, says the funds will be used to purchase new fixed wing and rotor wing aircraft for its flight school and to continue renovations to its aviation maintenance facility.

AMT School Offering 90% Tuition Scholarships

Epic Flight Academy has announced it will be offering a 90% tuition scholarship to selected students for training in its aircraft mechanic program at its New Smyrna Beach, Florida campus. The scholarships will cover $27,000 worth of training costs for the 19-month program.

Airbus Lands A330 Maintenance Contract

Latin American carrier Boliviana de Aviacion has signed an Airbus Flight Hour Services agreement for maintenance-by-the-hour support of its leased A330-200 fleet. The contract covers repair and integrated component services, including an on-site stock pool at Viru Viru International Airport in Bolivia.

Triumph Wins ITP Aero MRO Contract

ITP Aero has awarded Triumph Group’s Product Support business a multi-year contract to provide MRO support on accessory components including propeller gearboxes, hydromechanical units, oil scavenge and fuel boost pumps, and anti-icing and overspeed drain valves.

New Mesa Airlines VP Maintenance

Mesa Airlines has appointed Lorraine DiMarco as its new vice president of maintenance. She replaces Christian Daoud, who has resigned from the company. DiMarco most recently served as vice president of technical operations at Eastern Airlines following senior maintenance positions at Air Canada and JetBlue.

Rolls-Royce, Philippines Airlines Sign TotalCare Agreement

Rolls- Royce has signed a TotalCare service agreement with Philippines Airlines for Trent XWB-97 engines that will power carrier’s nine Airbus A350-1000 aircraft.

LHT Pens SmartLynx Parts Support Deal

Lufthansa Technik has signed a seven-year contract with SmartLynx Airlines, a cargo and charter services provider, to provide total component support for its entire fleet. The recently signed contract covers more than 60 aircraft, including 53 Airbus A320s, 10 A330s and four Boeing 737 Max aircraft.

Lufthansa Technik has signed a seven-year Total Component Support contract with SmartLynx covering more than 60 aircraft, including 53 Airbus A320s, 10 A330s and four Boeing 737 MAXs. The contract includes services such as spare parts pooling and component MRO.

Triumph, Moog Partner On 787 MRO

Triumph Group and Moog have signed a five-year agreement to provide MRO services for Boeing 787 landing gear and cargo door actuation control systems. The services will be provided to an Asia-Pacific operator from Triumph’s Actuation Products & Services facilities in Clemmons, North Carolina and Yakima, Washington.

Farsound Plans New San Antonio Facility

Farsound has announced plans to open a new facility in San Antonio, Texas this summer that will serve as a base for its aftermarket activities in the Americas. The company’s U.S. growth will be led by Matt Berkebile, who was appointed as President of Farsound USA earlier this month.

SIA Engineering Plans Training, Upskilling Focus

In its FY2022-23 results, SIA Engineering Group reported that its adoption of Lean practices has yielded additional base maintenance capacity. It says it plans to focus on workforce training and upskilling to continuously improve productivity and efficiency.

MYAirline Signs Honeywell APU Contract

Honeywell has secured a maintenance contract with Malaysian low-cost carrier MYAirline for the 131-9A auxiliary power units (APU) on its fleet of Airbus A320s. Under the five-year, non-exclusive maintenance contract it will provide services for the APUs on MYAirline’s entire A320 fleet, which is expected to grow from 22 to 55 aircraft over the next three years.

TransDigm Acquires Calspan

TransDigm has completed its acquisition of Calspan, an independent provider of testing and technology development services and systems for the aerospace and defense industry. Headquartered in Buffalo, New York with facilities across the U.S., Calspan’s transonic wind tunnel in Buffalo is used in aftermarket-focused development activities for commercial and defense aerospace markets.

Avia Solutions Group Sets Up Dublin Headquarters

Avia Solutions Group has moved its global headquarters to Dublin, a move which it says will make it the second-largest Irish-registered aviation business behind Ryanair. CEO Jonas Janukenas says the move to be closer to Ireland’s aviation community “is a strategically important step for us in terms of our further development plans.”

Lufthansa Technik Signs JetSMART Contract

Lufthansa Technik has signed a five-year contract with Chilean carrier JetSMART for continuing airworthiness management organization support and aircraft engineering services. It has already begun on-site support for the airline in Santiago, with the collaboration initially covering 25 Airbus A320 family aircraft.

FEAM Launches SAN Line Station

FEAM Aero has launched a new line station at San Diego International Airport (SAN) that will support the Airbus A330 platform, with plans to expand support on additional aircraft types. The station, its 52nd worldwide, will offer capabilities including line maintenance and on-wing AOG support.

VSE Plans Desser Acquisition

VSE Corporation has entered a definitive agreement to acquire aftermarket services provider and distributor Desser Holding Company. It expects to close the acquisition within 90 days, subject to regulatory approvals. VSE also plans to immediately sell Desser Aerospace’s Proprietary Solutions businesses to A&D component manufacturer and supplier Loar Group.

ICAO Data Shows Growth In Female AMTs

The International Civil Aviation Organization has released global survey data that shows the percentage of female aircraft maintenance engineers and technicians grew from 2.7% in 2016 to 3% in 2021. Increases were seen in all regions except for the Middle East and Africa, with the highest increases in the Asia-Pacific and Latin American/Caribbean regions. The survey shows Asia-Pacific has the highest percentage of women in these roles, at 4.4%.

AMP Aero Services Acquires Major Parts Inventory

AMP Aero Services has acquired an inventory of more than 88,000 parts. It says the lots include aircraft engine material for CFM International CFM56 and CF6-80C2, and Pratt & Whitney PW4000 and V2500 engines, as well as Boeing and Airbus airframe parts. It says the inventory will be positioned in Miami and Arkansas and available for purchase in the next 30-45 days.

Acumen Aviation Gets 737 MAX CAMO Approval

Acumen Aviation has received continuing airworthiness management organization (CAMO) approval for Boeing 737 MAX family aircraft, including the CFM Leap-1B engine, from the Irish Aviation Authority. It recently secured Airbus A320neo family CAMO from the Irish regulator.

HAECO ITM Extends Nippon Cargo Airlines Deal

HAECO ITM Limited has signed a seven-year contract extension with Nippon Cargo Airlines. Under the agreement it will provide inventory technical management services, including components and component repair management, AOG support and logistics, for the airline’s Boeing 747-8F fleet.

GATES Makes Philippines Headway

GA Telesis Engine Services (GATES) has secured a new CFM56-5B MRO contract with Philippines AirAsia. It will carry out work in its Helsinki, Finland facility. GATES has also received Civil Aviation Authority of Philippines certification for its engine MRO shop in Helsinki.

GA Telesis Management Changes

GA Telesis has implemented several management changes in its MRO Services Component and Landing Gear operations. It has appointed Nelson Llompart as vice president and general manager, and Emmanuel Camejo as landing gear operations manager. It says Gus Garcia, formerly vice president and general manager, will remain with the company supporting its landing gear growth.

Singapore Airlines Signs Satair IMS Contract

Singapore Airlines has signed a long-term agreement for Satair’s Integrated Material Services solution, through which it will provide a range of expendable materials customized for the airline, including expendables needed for line and base maintenance, forecasting, planning, purchasing and delivery.

ATR, Swiss AS Sign Partnership Agreement

ATR has signed a partnership agreement with Swiss Aviation Software to further improve the digitalization of airline maintenance management. The companies say the collaboration is the first of its kind between an aircraft manufacturer and MRO software, with the companies partnering to improve the integration of ATR maintenance data into the AMOS software provided by Swiss-AS to ATR operators. It says the aim is to enable airlines to digitalize their maintenance management in the most efficient way.

Delta TechOps Signs $225 Million In Q1 Component Contracts

Delta TechOps announced it has signed nine component MRO contracts worth $225 million during the first quarter of 2023. It says the agreements, which run between 3-5 years, cover Airbus and Boeing fleets for customers including cargo carriers and passenger airlines. The MRO programs will cover parts ranging from avionics, mechanical, fuel and hydraulic components.

Thales, AJW Extend Avionics Support Agreement

Thales and AJW Group have signed an extension of their Repair By The Hour avionics maintenance agreement. The five-year extension covers Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft types operated by new South American customers.

FL Technics has signed an agreement to provide subcontracted continuous airworthiness management operations services to Wizz Air UK's fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft. Under the five-year deal, FL Technics says it will use AMOS aircraft software to align with the airline and provide efficient services.

CTS Engines Plans New Headquarters

Independent MRO provider CTS Engines is planning to open a new headquarters in Coral Springs, Florida. The facility, which is expected to induct its first engine later this year, will double CTS Engines' square footage and capacity and it says it will enable adding new engine variants to its service offerings.

Ryanair Building Eco-Friendly Hangar

Ryanair plans to construct a new four-bay hangar to expand its aircraft maintenance facility at Dublin Airport. It says the hangar will be "one of the most environmentally friendly hangars in the EU" and will create more than 200 new jobs for engineers and mechanics. Construction will begin in the fourth quarter of 2023, with expected operations beginning in the second quarter of 2025.

IAI, Sharp Technics K Plan P2F Facility

Korean MRO Sharp Technics K has signed an agreement with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) to establish a new passenger-to-freighter conversion facility at Incheon International Airport for Boeing 777-ERSF aircraft. Under the agreement, IAI plans to begin converting aircraft in 2024.

SR Technics, Safran Developing New Engine Test Cell In Zurich

SR Technics has begun construction work for reactivation of its second test cell at Zurich Airport in partnership with Safran Test Cells. The test cell has been designed to meet testing requirements for new engine types, such as the PW1100G-JM, CFM Leap-1A and -1B, and CFM 56-5B and -7B. The companies expect the test cell to be ready for entry-into-service by mid-2024.

AerSale Plans New Tennessee MRO Facility

AerSale is opening a new facility at Millington-Memphis Airport in Tennessee capable of housing two narrowbody aircraft. It says the facility, which will be its sixth MRO location in the U.S., is advantageous due to being close to its Memphis distribution center and several major cargo operator hubs. It expects the facility to be operational in the first quarter of 2024.

Business aviation MRO specialist Jet East has opened two satellite locations in Dallas and Trenton, New Jersey for avionics services. The new locations will offer avionics system inspections, installations, troubleshooting and component replacement.

New Loganair Engine MRO Contract

Lufthansa Technik AERO Alzey has signed a five-year engine repair and overhaul agreement with Loganair, under which it will conduct services on Pratt & Whitney 127E/F/M engines installed on its ATR 42 and 72 aircraft. The agreement includes the option to add more engines as Loganair’s fleet expands.

UPS Completes A300 Cockpit Upgrades

UPS Airlines and Airbus have completed their six-year cockpit upgrade project, under which 52 A300-600 Freighters were retrofitted with modernized cockpit avionics from Honeywell. The final aircraft was delivered to UPS in March.

Emerald Airlines Launches Maintenance Apprenticeship Program

Aer Lingus regional subsidiary Emerald Airlines has launched its inaugural aircraft engineering and maintenance apprenticeship. It is seeking six apprentices to train in Shannon and Dublin to work on its fleet of ATR72-600 aircraft.

Quality Aircraft Accessories has reopened an expanded repair station facility in Fort Lauderdale, Florida that will offer MRO of general aviation accessories, focusing on magnetos and exhaust systems. The expanded facility has added new employees, modernized processes and welding services, which it says will accommodate aircraft engine exhaust system refurbishment.

TUI Selects Aviatar Platform

TUI Airline has selected Lufthansa Technik’s Aviatar platform for Boeing aircraft health management functionality. It will use the platform to manage fleet and maintenance operations on its Boeing 787 and 737 aircraft.

J&C Aero has signed a three-year contract with Heston Airlines to provide continuing airworthiness management organization (CAMO) support for the airline’s nine Airbus A320s. It will also support Heston through line maintenance, cabin interior design and production services.

Eaton Launches Women’s Workforce Initiative

Eaton, the parent company of aftermarket specialist Eaton Aerospace, has launched a program called ReLaunch aimed at helping women in India restart their careers after taking a break for any significant reason. SIA Engineering Company Limited (SIAEC) has signed a comprehensive services agreement with Scoot to provide MRO and fleet management support services. The two-year contract has an option to extend for a further year and is expected to yield a labor revenue of $120.8 million over a three-year term.

Farsound Opens New UK Headquarters

Farsound Aviation has opened a new 58,000 ft.2 headquarters in Brentwood Essex, UK. The facility has several sustainability features, including solar panels and reclaimed greywater for flushing toilets, as well as a robotic system for automatic picking of aerospace parts.

Startup low-cost carrier Northern Pacific Airways has signed an agreement with TRAX to implement its eMRO software system to manage maintenance activities on its fleet. The airline plans to launch service on June 2.

Emirates Picks Turkish Technic For 777 Base Maintenance

Turkish Technic has signed a base maintenance agreement with Emirates to provide services on five of its Boeing 777s. It has already begun maintenance on the first aircraft at its Istanbul Ataturk Airport facilities.

SIAEC has signed a $857.7 million agreement with Singapore Airlines to provide MRO and fleet management services, replacing an earlier agreement signed in April 2019. The agreement will be effective April 1, 2023 for two years, with an option to extend for another year.

Turkish Technic, Emirates Sign Base Maintenance Agreement

Turkish Technic has signed an agreement with Emirates to provide base maintenance services for five Boeing 777 aircraft. The company has already welcomed the first aircraft at its Istanbul Ataturk Airport facilities and the other aircraft will undergo maintenance in the next few months.

AAR To Acquire Nine Boeing 747 Aircraft

AAR subsidiary AAR Supply Chain will acquire nine Boeing 757-200 aircraft equipped with 18 Rolls-Royce RB211 engines from American Airlines. AAR says that the acquisition “will enable AAR to continue to support the RB211-powered 757 cargo market.”

Japanese low-cost carrier Toki Air has signed a general terms agreement with Air Asia Company Limited (AACL) related to MRO services for its ATR 72 and 42 aircraft. AACL will provide services from its facility in Taiwan.

LTTS Opens New Repair Facility

Lufthansa Technik Turbine Shannon (LTTS) has opened its new engine parts and accessories repair facility in Shannon, Ireland. The new facility will add engine manifolds to LTTS’s specialist services and the company has created 25 additional jobs to support the new facility.

Singapore Airlines has signed an $11.4 billion services agreement with SIA Engineering Company Limited (SIAEC) covering a variety of MRO and fleet management support services. The two-year contract begins April 1, with an option to extend for a further one-year period.

AFI KLM E&M Signs Corendon Engines Contract

AFI KLM E&M has signed a new contract with Corendon Airlines covering shop visits for six additional CFM56-7B engines. Under the contract, AFI KLM E&M will perform services from its Amsterdam engine shop over the next several months.

Liebherr-Aerospace has signed a long-term agreement with China Airlines to provide repair support services for a range of air conditioning and bleed system components installed on the airline’s fleet of 25 Airbus A321neos. GA Telesis has signed an agreement with Honeywell Aerospace giving it multi-year global exclusive distribution rights for CFM56-5B factory new Flex Shafts. The GA Telesis Distribution Solutions Group will support customers with the products via its regional distribution centers around the world.

LHT Integrates Honeywell Maintenance Analytics Into Aviatar

Honeywell's Connected Maintenance analytics are being fully integrated into Lufthansa Technik's Aviatar Predictive Health Analytics suite, which the companies say will grow to more than 100 predictors for multiple Airbus and Boeing aircraft types. Honeywell says the combined predictive analytics solution will help airlines increase aircraft availability and reduce costs associated with operations, flight delays and cancelations.

Jet Parts Engineering Gets FAA Approval For More PMA Parts, DER Repairs

Jet Parts Engineering and its subsidiaries Airline Components Parts and Aero Parts Mart have received FAA approval for 12 new PMA parts and three new DER repairs. The parts include cowl rub strips, thrust reverser seals, landing gear seals, starter valve piston rings, connecting tubes and more from a variety of commercial aircraft and engines.

Jet Aviation Gets Zurich Line Maintenance Approval

Jet Aviation has received approval from the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation for its line maintenance repair station in Zurich, which was first launched in May 2022 under a temporary extension of its Basel site authorizations. BASF has inaugurated a new Part 145 MRO station in Shanghai that is certified by the Civil Aviation Administration of China to service Deoxo aircraft ozone and ozone/VOC converters. It is now applying for FAA and European Union Aviation Safety Agency Part 145 certification for the facility.

AkzoNobel Launches Digital Coatings Service

AkzoNobel has launched Aerofleet Coatings Management, a digital service aimed at optimizing maintenance schedules for aircraft coatings through the use of inspection data. It says the service can help calculate more accurate maintenance and repaint schedules and reduce costs.

New Teruel Airport Hangar

Spain’s Teruel Airport has opened a new hangar with capacity for two Airbus A380 aircraft, which it says will enable maintenance on two A380s or six A321 simultaneously. The hangar is poised to create 150 jobs at the airport.

Marshall Aerospace Opens New Aerostructures Hangar

Marshall Aerospace has opened a new aerostructures production facility in Cambridge, UK. The new facility will see the production of auxiliary fuels tanks for P-8 maritime patrol aircraft, a military derivative of Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft. Additionally, the facility has incorporated few sustainability initiatives including, solar PV installations on the hangar roof, LED lighting with passive infrared control, high efficiency VRF air conditioning, and twin-socketed chargers for electric vehicles.

GA Telesis has expanded its inventory of used serviceable material (USM) with the disassembly of two Boeing 767-300 aircraft. The company's Component Solutions team will will distribute the materials to airline and MRO customers globally from its U.S. and UK-based distribution centers.

Collins Launches New Technology Initiative

Collins Aerospace has launched its Powered by Collins Initiative, which seeks to collaborate with deep technology firms on advanced technologies that could be used to create new products and services for the aerospace industry. It is initially seeking technologies applicable to four areas: extravehicular space mobility, high-performance batteries, autonomy for small unmanned aerial vehicles and composites recycling. STS Gains UK Part 21J Approval

STS Aviation Services has been granted Part 21J approval by the UK Civil Aviation Authority. It says the approval complements its aircraft maintenance and modification capabilities, and will be a first step toward adding supplemental type certificate and Part 21G production organizations approvals to its capabilities in the near future.

Southwest Airlines Tests Drag Reduction Retrofits

Southwest Airlines has flown the first revenue flight featuring an aircraft with Aero Design Labs’ drag reduction kit installed. The Boeing 737-700 was one of five aircraft Southwest is using to run a network evaluation of the drag kits, which are aimed at reducing fuel burn rate and carbon emissions.

VAS Acquiring More A320-Family Teardowns

VAS Aero Services will acquire two additional Airbus A320-family aircraft for teardown from Avolon Aerospace Leasing. The A319-100 and A320-100 will be disassembled in Hondo, Texas, with used serviceable materials being distributed through VAS Aero Services’ airline operator customer base.

GA Telesis Sees Landing Gear Boom

GA Telesis has reported significant growth in demand for landing gear services. Its MRO Services Component Repair Group overhauled more than 100 landing gear legs in 2022 and GA Telesis says revenue for its landing gear business has grown 149% since the service was introduced in 2019, comprising 20% of total revenue for its MRO Services group.

C&L Aviation Services has appointed Michael Jackson as director of maintenance, where he will oversee all repair station activities. Jackson comes to C&L from American Airlines, where he worked for three decades, most recently serving as senior manager of technical operations.

The Independent Aircraft Modifier Alliance (IAMA) has elected Frans van de Pol as chairman of the executive board. He joined IAMA’s board in 2021, and also leads Fokker Services’ engineering business unit. Van de Pol will replace outgoing chair Marc Pinault, who stepped down on March 7.

Storm Aviation has been approved by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), which assesses companies against national and international standards related to conformity assessment for calibration services. It says the accreditation boosts trust that its tools and equipment “are being calibrated to the highest level.”

MTU Maintenance has received new approvals at its facilities in Australia and Brazil. MTU Maintenance Service Centre Australia has gained Part 145 approval from Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority for CF34-series engines. MTU Maintenance do Brasil in Sao Paulo has gained FAA approval for the CFM56 engine family.

Ecube’s U.S. Facility Begins First Teardown

Ecube has begun its first teardown project at its new U.S. facility in Coolidge, Arizona. It is tearing down an Airbus A319 for inaugural customer Killick Aerospace. Ecube’s U.S. facility has welcomed more than 10 aircraft since it opened in October 2022.

Emirates has signed two major MRO contracts with Lufthansa Technik (LHT) for services on its Airbus A380 aircraft. Under the deals, LHT will overhaul main landing gears and provide base maintenance. The latter agreement is Emirates’ first time outsourcing heavy checks for A380s.

Joramco C Check Agreements

Joramco has signed an agreement with Air Europa to perform C checks on four Boeing 787 aircraft. It has also signed its first agreement with Cebu Pacific, under which it will perform C checks on its Airbus A330 aircraft starting this month.

VAS Aero Acquires Two Boeing 737-700 Aircraft

VAS Aero Services has acquired two Boeing 737-700 aircraft for teardown and subsequent parts harvesting. The company will disassemble both aircraft at its facility in Marana, Arizona. Work is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2023. The company says that the disassembled USM will be distributed through its airline operators and MRO customer base.

MRO Boosts Triumph’s Q3 Results

Lufthansa Cargo Takes Flight With AeroSHARK

The first Lufthansa Cargo Boeing 777F featuring AeroSHARK fuel-saving surface technology entered scheduled service on Feb. 3. According to Lufthansa Technik, which developed AeroSHARK with coatings specialist BASF, Lufthansa Cargo’s entire 777 freighter fleet will gradually receive modifications to incorporate the technology.
