AirlineForecasts' Managing Partner Vaughn Cordle put out a thought piece today that demonstrates the power of unconventional thinking. What happens, asks Vaughn, if United does not subscribe to the conventional wisdom? He has good reason to ask this question - there is a huge amount of money on the table. He estimates $450m for management. There's even money for employees. While its clear that pressures for United and US Airways to merge are manifest, Vaughn points out that Continental is a better option than US Airways. We also discuss what happens to the airline system, if a merger goes through. This is a system and the system will react - specifically Southwest. This may be one of the most fascinating podcasts we have done since we started in 2006.
