LOT Polish Airlines will launch 12X-weekly London City Airport (LCY)-Vilnius (Lithuania) Public Service Obligation (PSO) services from May 1, 2019. The carrier will use an Embraer E190 on the route.

PSO routes allow public entities to co-fund special interest flights within the European Union (EU). The government of Lithuania launched the tender in summer 2017.

“It is a unique case in the EU when the flight mechanism aimed at attracting business travelers will be supported by state. We are especially glad of being the first ones, together with our partners, to achieve such an important project,” Lithuanian Airports head of aviation services Aurimas Stikliunas said in a statement.

From Jan. 7, 2019, LOT plans to launch 12X-weekly Warsaw-London City (LCY) (non PSO) services, followed by 12X-weekly Budapest-LCY services from Feb. 18.

LOT will lease four new 106-seat Embraer E190s from Nordic Aviation Capital for the LCY route. All four aircraft will be delivered directly from Embraer in Brasil in December 2018.
