Scandinavian budget operator Norwegian will close several crew bases in Spain, Italy and the US this year in a bid to improve profitability. The airline said in a Jan. 17 statement that following an “exhaustive review” of its Boeing 737-800 and MAX 8 operations, it had decided to close crew bases in Palma de Mallorca; Gran Canaria and Tenerife in Spain; Rome Fiumicino in Italy; and New York Stewart and Providence, Rhode Island, in the US.
